Google launched its new technology to insert advertisements into online video games, which will help them to boost revenue from the booming gaming sector.

The advertisers are charged on a cost-per-impression (CPI) or cost-per-click (CPC) basis. It works with the same principal as google Adsense where revenue is split between Google and publishers.

Google is working with game makers including Konami Corp and MochiMedia, as well as advertisers like Sony Corp’s Sony Pictures and eSurance Inc.

Publishers who have a minimum of 500,000 game plays and 80 percent of their traffic from the U.S. or U.K. are eligible to participate in the beta version. Now AdSense for Games allows video, image or text advertisements to be placed at the start, end or change of level in an online game.

According to comScore statistics over a quarter of Internet users play games online. Game advertising is expected to boom as more and more females and teenagers entering the online gaming arena, which was dominated by males between the ages of 18 and 34. Yankee Group report states worldwide in-game advertising expenditures will rise to nearly $1 Billion by 2011.
